The Week in Weird |
Senegalese Independence at Teranga Restaurant | 4/4 | Boston Metro
It’s been 50 years since Senegal won its freedom from France. I’ve never seen a West African event in New England before, so this is the Weird Event of the Week! There’s a restaurant called Teranga that is Primary Senegalese, but also has French, Vietnamese, Moroccan, and Ghanian influences. They’re having an all day festival this Sunday, from 11am to 10:30pm, with Senegalese dancing and live music. I’ve been to the restaurant — it’s upscale but rather than being snooty, it’s a place you can relax and call home for an evening. Best of all, the food is uncompromisingly authentic. By this I mean, nothing here is Americanized “”sweet and sour chicken””. You may not like everything, but you’ll definitely have a unique experience and discover something new. I couldn’t hear much on the phone when I called in, but the event features the Senegalese group Lamine Touré, they’ll have off-the-menu appetizers after 8pm (when dinner ends), and you could win a free dessert! 1746 Washington Street, Boston, MA.617-266-0003. more more |

World Pillow Fight Day | 4/3 | Boston Metro
Pillow Fight Day is exactly what you think it is! Bring an old pillow you can destroy and have at! A secret. See website., Boston, MA. more more more |

Young Filmmakers Competition | 4/3 | Boston Metro
If that’s just too geeky, join the young film lovers at the Young Filmmakers Competition. I don’t normally feature film festivals, but the weather’s too cold for much outdoors, and a ton of filmmakers to meet and mingle with. The evening isn’t just a screening and awards show. They’ll have a social mixer both before and afterwards. Tickets are only $5, but they’ve given me 4 free passes to give away. So email me to win. Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont Street, Boston, MA. more |
Young Filmmakers – Movers and Shakers Cocktail Competition | 3/31 | Boston Metro
I’ve also got 4 free passes to their cocktail party on Wednesday. Maybe you’ll meet and fall in love with the future film star of Avatar 4 or Terminator 7. 7-9 pm! Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont Street, Boston, MA. more |
The Great Burlesque Expo | 4/2 – 4/4 | Boston Metro

Room to Dream Gala & Carnival | 4/1 | Boston Metro
Hmm. Burlesque convention or some kind of ill-described carnival for charity. Which one to choose? Well, they’re on different days, so you don’t have to choose. Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont Street, Boston, MA. more |
Closing Party & Pond Skim @ Wachusett Mtn | 4/3 | Worcester, MA

Boston Motion Graphics Festival | 4/1 – 4/7 | Boston Metro
What is motion graphics? Is that the same thing as CGI? Or it might be interactive art? The website doesn’t really say. But this seems to be a video / film convention where you can mingle and take workshops as well as see what’s new and cool. Various, Various. more |

Easter |
Easter Egg Hunt — Hull, MA | 4/3 – 4/4 | South Shore
Easter is here! It is a festival of chocolate, sugar, bad nutrition, and worse dental hygiene. Here are some places to go that aren’t religious. (You really don’t need Johnny’s List to find a church if you prefer that.) This one’s my top pick. The Paragon Carousel opens for the season, and the Easter Bunny will come! Easter Egg Hunt is Sunday at 12:30. 205 Nantasket Avenue, Hull, MA.781-925-0472. more |
Easter Egg Hunt – Wachusett Mountain | 4/4 | Worcester

Easter Egg Hunt @ Charmingfare Farm | 4/3 | New Hampshire
But this farm says they’ll give out $75,000 in prizes!! Really?! I’m definitely staking out the place the night before with infrared goggles and entering my “little person” adult friend Jason as a “6 year old”. Go get ’em, Jason! 774 High Street, Candia, NH. more |
4-H Easter Egg Hunt! | 4/3 | Rhode Island
Here’s another farm turned into a public attraction doing an egg hunt. Note: their corn field maze doesn’t open until August. 11am-3pm. Escobar Farm Corn Maze, Portsmouth, RI. more |
Easter Egg Hunt @ Waterford, CT | 4/3 | Connecticut

Easter Egg Hunts – Grafton | 4/3 | Northern Mass
The Friends of the Grafton Libraries hosts this one, with kids stories after. Personally, after exploiting a loophole in the rules to enter as an adult, and collecting all the eggs because of my superior height and speed, I would not hang around after for the kids stories. I would be busy hustling the chocolate on the street to addicts. 10am and 10:30am. Nelson Memorial Library field, Grafton, MA. more |

Easter Egg Hunt – Wilmington Town Common | 4/3 | Northern Mass

This one’s at a church. Some Church, Lexington, MA. more |
