Sunset Magic on Boston Harbor with Citycruises!  Five Stars!

Located on Boston Harbor shore, Rowes Warf is a hub of activities for the go getters of Boston.  The Roseway, once a dirty underpass for the central artery is now a delightful park thanks to the redevelopment of the big dig.  Head through the massive arch of the Boston Harbor Hotel and get ready to sail away with City Cruises Boston

The evening begins at Rowes Wharf as our sleek cruise ship The Odyssey sets sail into Boston Harbor. From there, it glides past Castle Island, offering postcard views of Fort Independence, before turning toward the mouth of the Mystic River. As we drift by historic Charlestown, we catch sight of the legendary USS Constitution, standing proudly against the twilight. Departing promptly at 6 PM, this sunset cruise gave us sweeping, chromatic views as the sun dipped below Boston’s iconic skyline, bathing the city in gold and pink hues.  Such views evoke an amazing romantic feeling should you wish to bring a significant other.  However, one can enjoy the sights just as well if single.

The Odyssey is a modern, four-deck dinner and entertainment yacht operated by City Cruises. Built in the early 1990s and styled to evoke a sleek European mega-yacht, the vessel features three climate-controlled dining decks, two outdoor observation decks, an upscale VIP lounge, and a sun deck topside. Whether docked at Rowes Wharf or gliding past the Boston skyline, the Odyssey combines elegant design, spacious decks, and a sophisticated harbor experience.

Upon boarding the boat, you are off to a tasty start!  You are greeted with charcuterie boards adorned with cheeses, crackers, and fresh fruits. A fun surprise? Digestive biscuits—a unique touch that straddles the line between cookie and cracker. It’s a little detail that sparks conversation as you sip your first drink and take in the view.  At one time such cookies were recommended by doctors in Scotland.

The dinner buffet offered a satisfying spread. Fresh rolls and crisp salads began the meal, followed by comforting baked orecchiette pasta, and roasted lemon-herb chicken that was both tender and flavorful. There were also steak tips for the carnivores but enough choices to satisfy most diets.  The selections were simple but well-prepared, perfect for enjoying in the relaxed atmosphere of the harbor.

Dessert was a spread of mini cheesecake bites—both chocolate and vanilla—along with blueberry cobbler squares and an assortment of small pastries. Bite-sized portions made it easy to sample a little of everything without feeling overly indulgent.  It was enough to satisfy a sweet tooth if you hadn’t stuffed yourself at the dinner buffet.  Remember to leave room for dessert if you decide to have a dinner cruise!

Entertainment on board included both live music and a DJ. On deck, Mike Boucher performed crowd-pleasing cover tunes ranging from Bruce Springsteen and U2 to Johnny Cash. Down in the ballroom, Carlitos Wave kept the energy high with dance-friendly hits that drew passengers to the floor. Whether you wanted to sway under the stars or dance the night away, there was something for everyone.  There is no better way to relax than to look out upon the ocean while you sip a tropical cocktail with entertaining tunes providing the soundtrack.

The full bar kept spirits high with an impressive selection of bottled beers and wines. Should you crave a good cocktail, there is a fully stocked bar to provide nearly any concoction.  Large ice water dispensers at every bar station were a thoughtful touch, helping guests stay refreshed on warm summer evenings. On many of these cruises, the bar service is open, but pace yourself—it’s easy to get carried away with so much to enjoy.
