Terror Con 2024 brings horror just in time for Halloween (4.5 stars)
The end of September is upon us and the nights are growing subtly longer. That means one thing for many – Halloween season is upon us. So, break out the plastic butcher knife and strap on your hockey mask. It’s time for Terror Con!
Terror Con is the horror branch for Altered Reality Entertainment, the company behind many comics and fan convention all over the United States. They are no strangers to bringing in rabid fans for fun and excitement.
Should you want to do some shopping, you can find a plethora of horror-related wares. Collectors’ items like action figures, rare DVDs and posters are abundant at many vendors. Should you want a one-of-a-kind horror collectible, many artists are making custom works of art.
Beyond the normal fare on the convention floor, there were unique merchants. Want to rip into some dead flesh? Head to the Newport Jerky company to try some exotic meats like anaconda, alligator or shark jerky! Speaking of food, one of the interesting aspects of the cons café is that they named all of their dishes after horror movies. Chicken fingers, no but they do have Freddy Fingers! In honor of Scott Ian, lead singer of Anthrax, you can get some Anthrax Cider. Meet Gremlins star Zach Galligan and then have some Mogwai Mac and Cheese!
One of the biggest draws of cons is the chance to meet, greet and get an autograph from a well-known celebrity. Terror con had many. They include Greg Nicotero, director and special effects master behind the Walking Dead, Brad Dourif and Billy Boyd of Lord of the Rings, and Ken Foree of Dawn of the Dead. Wrestling superstar Rikishi, the force behind one of the most horrifying things in human history – The Stinkface – was on hand. Plus many more.
Cons are also known for their panels in which fans can discuss the horror world with actors and more. Killer Klowns from Outer Space had a reunion on Fridays panel in which they discussed the cult classic. Many Child Play actors such as Alex Vincent, Fiona Dourif and Christine Elise plus the aforementioned Brad Dourif and Billy Boyd discussed their experience. Many more panels were coming up as well.
Cosplay is now one of the biggest attractions both for fans and for the hardcore cosplayers. You may see Jason Vorhees from Friday the 13th or Mike Myers from Halloween. Video games come to life when Jill Valentine walks by Heisenberg and Lady Dimetrescu from Resident Evil. Prepare to be stalked by Pyramid Head towering over you as you flee the horror of Silent Hill. And if it bleeds, you can kill it, but don’t expect a fight if you are hunted by female Predator Bioweapon Lakota 72.
For those that like a party filled with horror in the dark, Terror Con has a late-night clown themed shindig called the Big Top After Party. Grab your grease paint and get ready to dance to The Silver City DJ spinning tunes. No one wants to attend a party that’s dead, except when it’s a horror party. Then it’s a circus!
Overall Terror Con delivers a spooky and horror filled experience for the Halloween Season. Be prepared for fright and fun.
