Sep 12-20, 2011: 6 Giveaways, 6 Fireworks, Steampunk, Highland Games, Pow Wow, Soap Box Derby, Pirate Day, Helicopter Rides, and Civil War Re-enactments

Unlike last week, this week I’ve found 25 sensational events I wanted to put in to the top 10. And there are a ton of giveaways, too.

I’ve just visited Salem, Massachusetts in preparation for the Halloween season, and it’s a great destination — but choose with care. Among the wonderfully creative and intelligent events you’ll find a lot of commercial timewasters, but I’ll make recommendations and try to steer you right. This is just a reminder that going to Salem you’ll encounter people who demand to be taken seriously when they talk about ghosts and palm readings. Do us all a favor and don’t encourage them by awkwardly looking away. Just politely say, “That’s not true,” or, “I disagree”. It doesn’t sound like much, but every dose of reality may help some poor sucker who’s been conned into making life choices from horoscopes.

Last week my head sort of exploded when 20 people wanted the two pairs of King Richard’s Faire tickets. Even though I track the generous readers who have told friends about Events INSIDER, some give more push than others. When you ask to win tickets, remind me of how many friends you’ve told. I don’t make money doing this and word of mouth is the only way I have to reach new readers. (And thanks!)

I hope you are having an awesome week. Now get out there and do something fun!

-Johnny

Thu 9/15
Boston Events INSIDER, by Johnny Monsarrat

Although most are now gone, the outdoor films aren’t quite over! This one’s a smallish venue, a movie projected onto the side of a food truck. Hmm. Takes place at sundown. Dewey Square Park, Boston, MA.

Sandwich Glass Museum Glass Show & Sale Cape Cod

Sat 9/17 – Sun 9/18
Boston Events INSIDER, by Johnny Monsarrat

If I wanted to buy art, I think I’d prefer to be at this glassblowing event instead, perhaps on the way back from the Heritage Museums & Gardens. I stopped here once and was given a spontaneous demonstration with no pressure to buy anything. This event will likely be worth a visit. Sandwich Glass Museum, Sandwich, MA.508-888-0251.

Blink at Club Oberon Boston Metro

Sun 9/18
Boston Events INSIDER, by Johnny Monsarrat

Wow! This looks like another hit at Club Oberon. It’s a dance party, but there’s also a performance where the performers are “at a high school reunion”. At least that’s what I think it is. Oh heck, the events at Club Oberon are always good. We don’t need descriptions amongst friends. Club Oberon, Cambridge, MA.

British Invasion Weekend Vermont

Fri 9/16 – Sun 9/18
Boston Events INSIDER, by Johnny Monsarrat

I’m not likely to drive to Vermont for a car show, considering I live right next to the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA which is constantly having lawn shows all summer. But hey. It’s probably the biggest thing happening in Vermont. I’ll list it. Stowe, VT.
