 When driving down the highways of modern America, one does not expect to encounter a battering ram standing across from a catapult. Yet that is exactly the sight that greets visitors upon arriving at Silverstone Castle in Swansea, Massachusetts. Beyond these medieval war machines rises an imposing gray stone fortress, complete with towering wooden gates, massive crossbows mounted on its roof, and a giant statue of an axe-wielding knight standing guard over the entrance.

The moment you step inside, the immersive theming continues seamlessly. Guests enter what feels like a genuine medieval tavern, complete with roaring fireplaces, swords displayed above the mantle, and a dragon perched overhead watching the diners below. Whether the dragon is hoping for a bite of your meal or a bite of you is anyone’s guess.

The tavern features a unique enclosed courtyard dining area that creates the illusion of being outdoors while remaining completely climate-controlled and protected from the elements. It’s a feature even many major theme parks can’t guarantee. Trees, a working fountain, and beautifully painted murals depicting medieval adventures surround guests on all sides. Some murals are strikingly realistic, looking as though they belong on the cover of a fantasy novel, while others embrace a more whimsical style perfect for younger visitors.

But Silverstone Castle doesn’t simply live in the past. Beneath its medieval exterior lies a thoroughly modern family entertainment center with attractions for guests of all ages.

One of the most impressive features is the giant indoor swimming pool, which continues the castle’s fantasy theme. A massive dragon overlooks the water while children can enter a dragon cave before splashing into the pool itself. A nearby snack bar serves family favorites such as pizza, pretzels, and hot dogs, making it easy to spend an entire afternoon poolside. If you’re planning a visit, don’t forget your swimsuit and towel.

For those who prefer friendly competition, billiards have quickly become one of the venue’s most popular attractions. The pool tables are so well-used that expansion plans are already underway to accommodate growing demand.  Grab your cue and get ready to rack.

Families with younger children will appreciate the dedicated play area and funhouse. There is even a safe play space designed specifically for toddlers, ensuring that even the youngest guests have something to enjoy.  For slightly older kids, they even have a rock climbing wall. 

The arcade offers a wide variety of modern games, from action-packed shooters and racers to classic ticket redemption games where players can earn prizes. Visitors can choose between a traditional pay-per-game system using credits loaded onto a card or an unlimited-play option that allows unlimited access to most games for a fixed price. The only caveat is that unlimited-play guests cannot earn tickets for prizes.

The crown jewel of the attraction may be its massive two-story indoor go-kart track. Unlike traditional kart racing experiences that focus solely on speed, Silverstone Castle adds a video game-inspired twist. Drivers collect power-ups throughout the course and deploy them strategically against competitors. The result feels less like a standard race and more like stepping into a real-life video game.

Of course, no visit would be complete without sampling the food.

The tavern’s menu features strong Portuguese influences and offers much more than standard entertainment-center fare. The Twisted Shrimp was a standout appetizer, featuring perfectly fried popcorn shrimp paired with a zesty dipping sauce. For something both delicious and visually memorable, the Barrel Nachos arrive stacked inside an actual barrel. When the barrel is lifted away, it reveals a towering layered display of nachos that is sure to turn heads.

For the main course, the Seafood Mozambique showcased the kitchen’s Portuguese roots. The dish delivered bold flavor and featured exceptionally tender scallops whose freshness was evident from the first bite. Silverstone Castle succeeds not only as an entertainment destination but also as a legitimate dining experience. Visitors could easily come for the food alone, meet friends to watch a game, or enjoy a cocktail from the full-service bar while soaking in the atmosphere.

What ultimately sets Silverstone Castle apart is its commitment to theming. The level of detail rivals attractions found in much larger destinations and demonstrates a genuine passion for immersive design. Every corner of the venue contributes to the fantasy, creating an experience that feels transported from another time and place.  There is even a gift shop to take home a souvenir of your adventures.
