Sat 9/3 – Sun 10/23 |
King Richard’s Faire is New England’s largest renaissance faire, and the closest to Boston, too. You’ll find hundreds of entertainers, 8 performance stages, and real live jousting. With giant puppets, war drums, live tigers, and a fire juggling show, you will definitely want to attend! Best of all, I’ve got two pairs of tickets to give away for opening weekend, September 3-5. Email johnny@eventsINSIDER.com to win! 235 Main St, Carver, MA.508-866-5391. |
King Richard’s Faire preview event | Boston Metro
Thu 9/1 |
Curious about the faire but don’t know what to expect? Come see the King Richard’s Faire preview event. You’ll see live jousting on horseback, a tiger, tons of performers, and it’s free! 11am-1pm. Hatch Shell on the Esplanade, Boston, MA. |
Anunah Hill Days (Stargazing Weekend) | Boston Metro
Fri 9/2 – Mon 9/5 |
I’ve always wanted to see this one! It’s a weekend festival for serious astronomy buffs, but everyone is invited. You can camp or just visit, with model rockets and nature walks in the day and serious stargazing at night. Arunah Hill, Cummington, MA. |
Brazilian Independence Day Festival | Boston Metro
Sun 9/4 – Sun 9/11 |
The Brazilians want a festival too! This one has a parade, music, and the usual kids stuff like balloon animals. It’s free! DCR Herter Park, 1175 Soldiers Field Road, Boston, MA. |
Governor Sprague Mansion Living History Event | Rhode Island
Sat 9/3 – Sun 9/4 |
It’s the 150th anniversary of the civil war, and there’s a fancy word for that, and thus even more re-enactments than ever. This one is an “encampment” of the Union army, with artillery demos and re-enactors playing Governor William Sprague and President Abraham Lincoln. Governor Sprague Mansion, 1351 Cranston St, Cranston, RI. |
Nathaniel Hawthorne: The Haunted Mind | Rhode Island
Sat 9/3 |
While you’re there, make sure to catch famous old-timey author Nathaniel Hawthorne, as re-enacted by Rob Velella, who ‘returns from the dead to read some of his dark tales’. I have seen him performance it’s a must-see show, and only $8. The Artists’ Exchange, 50 Rolfe Square, Cranston, RI. |
World War II Day at Battleship Cove | Southeast Mass
Sat 9/3 – Sun 9/4 |
Re-enactments in New England usually focus on the 1700s. Here’s one focused on World War II, and it takes place at the largest naval museum in the world, right here in Fall River. You can see a actual battleship, a submarine, and more — and there’s a carousel there. Battleship Cove, Fall River, MA. |
New England Elvis Festival | New Hampshire
Fri 9/2 – Sun 9/4 |
Speaking of modern re-enactments: it’s 20 Elvis impersonators, I mean, “tribute artists”, including Elvis’s former bodyguard. And much of the festival is free! Radisson Hotel, Manchester, NH. |
Fly In/Berkshire “End of Summer Fly-in | Western Mass
Sat 9/3 |
Part of Great Barrington’s 250th Anniversary is an air show, with powered parachutes, tethered balloon rides, skydiving, plane rides, and a lot more! Great Barrington, MA. |
Boston Tattoo Convention | Boston Metro
Fri 9/2 – Mon 9/5 |
If you’re into tattoos, don’t miss this opportunity to gawk and be gawked at. Just don’t get a tattoo you’ll hate when you’re 80! They’ll have a burlesque show and tattoo contests. Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont St, Boston, MA. |
