October 24-31: The Australian Pink Floyd, and The Greatest New England Halloween List That Has Ever Been Compiled, with Creative Awesomeness Kid Stuff and Grownup Stuff
Wow! I have really gone ALL OUT for this Halloween season. Without a doubt, this is the most comprehensive and generally awesome Halloween list that anyone has ever built in New England. Please do me a favor for all the hard work and make your friends subscribe.
It’s a list that’s really too big to read everything, so click on nearby regions to see just the events that are close to you. Also, you guys know that I put the best stuff up top, right? I try to prioritize everything from most awesome to least but still worth a mention.
Make sure to see our Australian Pink Floyd interview and email me at johnny@eventsinsider.com to win a pair of tickets for Tuesday, Oct 25.
Please don’t spend Halloween in a bar. You know when you can go to a bar? ANY NIGHT OF THE YEAR. So please do something awesome, maybe outdoorsy, that is more creative than just getting buzzed.
I hope you are having an awesome week. Now get out there and do something fun!
-Johnny

Revere Family Fright Night | Boston Metro
Sun 10/30 |
Below you’ll find nearly 200 Halloween events this week (including haunted cornfield mazes and permanent haunted attractions). Haunting Hawthorne | Metro West
Wed 10/26 |
Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of New England’s most famous writers, and my favorite re-enactor will read his spooky stories and take questions. It’s free and a very rare event, a true gem of re-enactments. How often do you get a chance to “speak with the dead”, so to speak? What a fun way to learn some history! 7pm. The Wayside, 455 Lexington Road, Concord, MA.978-318-7825. event website on twitter on facebook |
Haunted Higgins | Worcester
Sat 10/29 |

But this Saturday, come in costume and go trick or treating (adults or kids), participate in a costume contest and hear spooky storytelling. OoooO! 11am-3pm. 100 Barber Ave, Worcester, MA. event website on twitter on facebook |
Things That Go Bump in the Night & Trail of Terror at Sturbridge Village | Worcester
Sat 10/29 |
My favorite re-enactment attraction, Old Sturbridge Village, is an entire village grounds with perhaps 20 buildings and 50 live actors showing you trades from the 1860s. And now they’re adding spooky storytelling, magic, games, trick-or-treating, and a semi-spooky “haunted forest trail”. Buy in advance, they’ll sell out (so they claim). Seems oriented for kids. 1 Old Sturbridge Village Road, Sturbridge, MA.508-347-3362. event website on facebook |
Haunted Salem Village | North Shore
Sat 10/29 – Mon 10/31 |

Halloween Iron Pour at the Steel Yard | Rhode Island
Fri 10/28 |
I’ve seen an event like this, and it’s awesome. Art students spend all semester making molds, and professionals pour molten iron in. The Steel Yard, 27 Sims Ave, Providence, RI. primary website another |

MIT Pumpkin Drop | Boston Metro
Sat 10/29 |
Students drop pumpkins from the 18th floor to a roped-off spot where people from a safe distance can watch and cheer. Somebody email me with info, even if the info is “DOOOOOD, stop listing our TOT’LY SIKRET pumpkin drop”! MIT, Cambridge, MA.617-253-2871. event website |
Dia de los Muertos | Boston Metro

Beacon Hill With a BOO! | Boston Metro
Mon 10/31 |
This tour includes ghost stories and a spooky walk through Boston. No reservations required. This one’s not just for kids. Hear stories of murders, hangings, and (hopefully) historically accurate stories, not “paranormal” BS. Seriously, do not go on a tour where they ask you to take photographs looking for ghosts. Some people are easily duped. Don’t be one of them. State House, front steps, Boston, MA. event website on twitter on facebook |
Boston Swing “Calling All Zombies | Boston Metro

Franklin Park, Boston, MA. event website |

AntiMorris and Pumpkin Carols | Boston Metro
Mon 10/31 |
You’ve heard of maypole dancing — a tradition that “brings” the Spring. Well now it’s time to put the sun away for the winter. (Guys, maybe we can skip that putting sun away dance? This is Boston.) And I just think the phrase “pumpkin carols” is AWESOME. :). Somerville Community Growing Center, 22 Vinal Avenue, Somerville, MA. event website |
Halloween party at Roller Kingdom (Tyngsboro) | Metro West
Sun 10/30 |
What’s better than a Halloween party? One on roller skates!! I’m totally excited about this! I’ve only been roller skating once as a post-college adult and it was THE BEST TIME EVER. You giggle, you fall, you chase each other around. This isn’t kids-only, right? It says parents get in for free. Hmm. If adults could skate too, why would they get in for free? 1-5pm. Roller Kingdom, Tyngsboro, MA. event website on twitter on facebook |

Thriller Zombie Re-enactment | North Shore
Sat 10/29 |
Learn to dance Michael Jackon’s “Thriller” and then perform (or just come see it) on Salem Common! They’re doing it at the unfortunate time of 8am because it’s synchronized worldwide with other dancers. Personally, I’d rather have it non-sychronized but at a time when I’m not sleeping. Salem Willows Shell, Salem, MA.978-741-2287. event website on twitter on facebook |

Closing night celebration & Halloween Fireworks | North Shore
Mon 10/31 |
It’s really worth the visit to Salem if you can make it, for the crowds, costumes, and B-level Halloween fun. (Really, all the best Halloween attractions are outside Salem, or they’re A-level but year-round things.) To encourage revelers to return home, they will end the night with a musical fireworks finale at 10pm, and then extra commuter rail trains home. Washington St at Bridge St, Salem, MA. event website on twitter on facebook |
Nosferatu2011 – a Live Film Score | Boston Metro
Fri 10/28 |
This is going to be great! I’ve seen something like it. Basically you watch a scary movie from the silent film era (this one’s the first vampire movie) while eerie live music plays. Horribles Parade | Lowell
Sun 10/30 |
A horribles parade seems to be a costume parade. I get it. Leaves the Public Safety Building at 4:30pm to the High School Cafeteria. (Or go direct to the cafeteria if rain.) So, can adults join in? Wilmington, MA. event website |
Cemetery Birding (with Ghost Stories Included) | South Shore

Halloween Party at the Creepy Carousel | Southeast Mass
Sat 10/29 |
The good news: it’s a carousel and the world’s largest Naval Exhibit. The bad news: geared for kids 12 and younger. And they want you to reserve in advance. 3-5pm. Battleship Cove, 5 Water St, Fall River, MA.508-678-1100 x101. event website |
